Student leadership

A key feature of Sutton Primary’s success is the active involvement of students in the life of the school. The school aims to offer a diverse range of leadership opportunities for all students that include joining leadership teams and participating in leadership programs. In addition to the roles of School Captains, School Prefects, House Captains and SRC Members, this will include, but is not limited to, Choir Leaders, Band Leaders, K-2 and 3-6 Support Leaders, Garden Leaders and Film & Technology Leaders.

Through participation in such leadership roles, students will learn about and improve their skills in:

  • Public Speaking
  • What makes a ‘good’ leader
  • Organisational and team skills
  • Encouraging and problem solving

Our students are leaders and role models. They will be given support in their roles and shown how to be good leaders. Additionally, as role models, our student leaders are to abide by the Leadership Charter, and are to:

  • Show care, courtesy and reliability
  • Be capable of doing the job
  • Be positive and enthusiastic
  • Show empathy towards others
  • Use manners and be respectful when dealing with other students and adults
  • Treat others fairly, honestly and with dignity
  • Show self-discipline
  • Show self-control of feelings and actions
