Teacher/Librarian: Mrs Doran

The library is a valuable part of our school with over 14,000 books and resources. The collection includes picture books, junior fiction, senior fiction, and carefully selected non-fiction titles. It is used to support children with their learning and all children have opportunities to use the library for borrowing.

Books are loaned to children each week, as well as larger loans to classrooms to encourage further reading and to supplement class inquiry learning. Class borrowing days are Tuesday (K/3/4/5/6) and Wednesday (1/2), and typical borrowing limits are: Kindergarten (1 book), Years 1/2/3 (3 books), Years 4/5/6 (4 books). All children from Kindergarten to Year 3 need to have a library bag as they come to the library for 30 minutes each week for reading and borrowing.

Children also have the opportunity to become trained as Library Monitors, and assist in managing the library on a 3-week roster.

Additional literature based activities are often held at lunchtimes in the library, such as Sutton Chef (using our collection of cookbooks) and craft.

Other special events include our annual Book-a-Picnic (where children of different ages share books over lunch), character dress-up days, and a Grandparents Day book sale, where guests have the opportunity to purchase and donate books to the library for the children to enjoy.
